Channels, Gates, and Lines
The BodyGraph contains 64 Gates (based on the I Ching hexagrams) connected by 36 Channels. A defined Channel creates a consistent life force theme. Integration Channels (e.g., 34-57) give self‑contained individual energy; Collective Channels carry logic; Tribal Channels concern community bonds.
Gates & LinesEach Gate has 6 lines (numbered 1 to 6). The line of a Gate adds a specific flavour to the Gate's archetype. Your Profile (e.g., 5/1) consists of two numbers: the first is the conscious line (personality), the second is the unconscious line (design). The numbers refer directly to the line descriptions in the table below.

Profile & Incarnation Cross
| # | Line Name | Theme |
| 1 | Investigator | Deep foundation; needs to study and understand before acting. |
| 2 | Hermit | Natural talent; called out by others, needs alone time. |
| 3 | Martyr | Trial and error; resilience through mistakes, becomes an expert. |
| 4 | Opportunist | Networker; opportunities come through close relationships. |
| 5 | Heretic | Projected upon as a problem‑solver; universalizer of practical solutions. |
| 6 | Role Model | Three‑phase life: trial (0‑30), observation (30‑50), role modeling (50+). |
How to read a Profile: e.g., 5/1 means your conscious (personality) line is 5 (Heretic) and your unconscious (design) line is 1 (Investigator). The two numbers work together – the first is how you are seen and how you act consciously; the second is your subconscious foundation and inner learning style.
The Incarnation Cross is the fixed theme of your life purpose, formed by the positions of the Sun and Earth in both personality and design (e.g., "Right Angle Cross of the Sphinx", "Left Angle Cross of Healing"). It combines four specific Gates at the same line level.
Key ReminderHuman Design combines astrology (planetary positions), I Ching (gates), Kabbalah (Tree of Life channels), and the chakra system. The chart is calculated from two sets of data: birth time (Personality) and 88 days prior (Design).
