Secondary Archetypes

Lakuning Pandhita Sakti & Lakuning Sasi – Exceptional Weton

Secondary LakuningMeaningSpecific Weton (Irregular)Note
Lakuning Pandhita SaktiThe Wise Saint – introverted, spiritually profound, wise, often quiet, deeply contemplative.Minggu Legi, Selasa Pon, Jumat WageThese three weton carry this archetype despite having different Neptu (10, 10, 10).
Lakuning SasiThe Charismatic Moon – attractive, magnetic, charming, naturally draws people and opportunities.Selasa Kliwon, Sabtu KliwonNeptu 11 and 17 respectively; overrides the primary Lakuning for these specific combinations.
📘 Why “irregular”?

In the primary system, Neptu 10 is always Lakuning Kembang (Flower), and Neptu 11 is always Lakuning Setan. However, classical primbon manuscripts note that the three weton Minggu Legi, Selasa Pon, and Jumat Wage exhibit the traits of a wise, introverted saint (Pandhita Sakti) instead of the expected Flower nature. Similarly, Selasa Kliwon and Sabtu Kliwon display exceptional charisma and magnetism (Sasi) beyond the usual Setan or Bumi archetypes. These are not contradictions but deeper layers of the primbon system.

The transitional seasons Kawolu (3 Feb–25 Feb) and Kasanga (26 Feb–17 Mar) are not assigned a Bantala name in classical sources because they represent the shift between wet and dry – their earth condition is neither fully soft nor fully hard.

Jam Kaping – The Traditional Hours

Javanese TermApproximate TimeTraditional Meaning
Jam Kaping Pisan~12:00–13:00Noon stillness – meditation, avoid travel.
Jam Kaping Loro~13:00–14:00Afternoon lull – avoid disputes.
Jam Kaping Telu~14:00–15:00Productive work, meetings.
Jam Kaping Papat~15:00–16:00Beginning of evening energy.
Jam Kaping Kelima~16:00–17:00Highly auspicious for offerings to Dewi Sri, financial decisions, closing deals – “gate of prosperity”.
Jam Kaping Enem~17:00–18:00Sunset – ancestor rituals.
Jam Kaping Pitu~18:00–19:00Evening prayer, family time.
Jam Kaping Sela~03:00–04:00 (pre‑dawn)
(also reported late afternoon in some sources)
The most spiritually charged hour – “the ninth hour”. Used for tirakat (asceticism), exorcism, communion with the divine; the veil between worlds is thinnest.
⌛ Why Kelima & Sela are special

Jam Kaping Kelima (5th hour, ~4 PM) is when the sun’s energy wanes but prosperity deities are most receptive – the preferred time for selamatan (thanksgiving feasts) and business agreements. Jam Kaping Sela (the “gap” hour, ~3–4 AM) is the hour of spiritual victory – used for deep meditation, exorcism, and resolving karmic issues. In classical primbon, these two hours are never treated as ordinary.

Sengkala & Timing – Life Thresholds

Sengkala are critical life thresholds based on Weton – ages that are multiples of the total Neptu (e.g., Neptu 11 → ages 11, 22, 33, 44, 55). Also certain Wuku cycles (Bala, Sungsang, Marakeh) mark years of testing. These are times of intense transformation, spiritual testing, or rebirth. During Bantala Rengka years (when the weton sum aligns with the dry season), rituals are recommended.

System Logic

How Primbon Works · 101

① Weton = Birth Code
Saptawara + Pancawara → Neptu (7‑18).
② Neptu = Key
Determines Satria, Primary Lakuning, Sengkala years.
③ Secondary Lakuning
Certain weton override primary nature (Pandhita Sakti, Sasi).
④ Wuku & Pranata Mangsa
Add seasonal & weekly overlays (Bantala, deity rulership).
